Nate’s Description

Week TWO! I was beginning to lose control waiting to post this! We have a brand new character, Matts girlfriend Brittney! Shes not real though, don’t worry. Just another character. So ladies, Matt and I are both eligible bachelors *wink.* Aaaanyways, we’ve all had an encounter or two just like this one. Theres always one person who has no idea what gaming things are and they are always so annoying… Enjoy!

Additional Context:

This comic, Nate’s third, was the first (and frankly early,) expansion on its two central characters. It’s the introduction of what will become quite the x-factor for Nate’s psyche: women. Britney, a short-lived but gloriously strawman-ish stand-in for woman-gamers writ large busts onto the scene to confuse consoles but adore Sonic.

For those of us who would later go on to speculate and collect information on Nat, Britney was a small but difficult-to-parse-out detail of his converging personal and ‘creative’ life.

I’ll provide greater context in the coming weeks for Nate’s personal experiences, but it was relatively understood that Nate would fictionalize the actual people in his life as a method of texturing his comic.

Matt, whose real name was “Wes” or “Wesley,” requested his name be changed in the comic – Nate obliged, but kept his own, and let it slip multiple times in private conversations. Here, I would usually provide some sort of definitive screengrab or conversation, but it was general knowledge, and “Matt” didn’t really seem to mind, according to Nate. He didn’t appreciate the negative attention that Nate would later receive, but that context will be provided when the time comes. Other characters that would later show up, like Sarah or Brian, were created via either a direct pull from a person they knew and wanted to insert (Sarah,) or a (theorized, I’ll get to that,) amalgam of people that he wanted to portray, mock, or generally fictionalize (Brian.) Britney is an extremely small example that falls outside of this dichotomy, and a confusing one at that.

“Wes” (who I will continue to refer to as Matt, despite his actual name,) likely didn’t have a girlfriend at this time due to a number of factors which will be discussed in more detail in later posts. Nate never mentioned anyone Matt was dating openly who had any of Britney’s behaviors in posts of his in February and onwards. He noted multiple times in a number of posts a lack of knowing almost any women who played games or cared about gaming.

It doesn’t help that she knows who Sonic is, but calls game consoles ‘Nintendos’ like someone’s caring but uninformed mother. It’s also worth noting that her torso appears to be a male base with boobs added on later. I just think that’s funny.

Comments on Nate’s website were among the number of things that were unable to be saved or archived properly in the Nate pre-history. Before comments were removed following the influx of hate-readers in the months to come (I’m trying to remember if it was before or after I became regularly involved in Nate’s online activities) he was getting a handful of pageviews and maybe two or three regular correspondents in comments, all generally positive according to a few later GnatWatch members. All was quiet for now. Nate was still chugging away and seemed to be enjoying himself.
